Genomics Training Program for Health Educators
The goal of the genomics training program for health educators is to develop, implement, and evaluate a theory- and evidence-based genomics education and training program for health educators. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first genomics education training program primarily designed by health educators to be tailored to health educators’ needs, education/training, responsibilities, and credentials.
It is anticipated that this project will impact the provision of prevention and control services by:
- increasing health educators' practice of family history education for clients;
- increasing Americans’ genomics health literacy, their collection and utilization of family history information, and communication with clinicians regarding their needs for personalized genomic services.
This is a research project funded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT, Award Number PP100214) and the Leonard Ponder Endowed Chair Research Grant at Texas A&M University.
